Devotion:
Today I wanted to talk about something a little different: staying motivated.
Often, we can find ourselves either stuck in a “boring” routine, or trying to find one. It can be easy to just go through the motions instead of really devoting yourself to the task at hand.
I was talking to someone earlier this week, and she was asking how/when I read my Bible. Spending time with Jesus is the most important part of any day. Honestly, once He is truly in us, we will spend every second of our day with him, because we will be confident that He guides our days. However, it is still important to spend quite, one on one time with Him.
Think of it this way: if you’re a parent, you might spend one on one time with a child to help your relationship with them, teach me, remind them that they’re important and treasured. If you’re beginning a new relationship with someone, you will want to spend time together to get to know one another. Chances are, you will be excited for that time. If you’re with an older/longer friend, you’ll want to spend time with them because you enjoy their company, and want to catch up.
Jesus shouldn’t be different. Just as we encourage and feed the other relationships in our life, we must feed our relationship with Him too. In some ways...so that our other relationships will flourish. It is our responsibility to devote ourselves to Him.
All that said, I thought I would quickly share what I do. Spoiler, it is simple but meaningful. At night, I will write a gratitude list. Then I will read one chapter of the Bible, in whatever book I am currently in. Maybe more, but this is a good and doable goal. Lastly I will write in a journal.
This routine is really the most important part of my day. I encourage to find a little routine that works for you!
Follow me on Instagram if you aren’t already...I have got some exciting things happening over there!
Until next time,
