Devotion:

I have begun reading through Colossians this week, and I thought I would take the next couple of weeks to talk about this incredible book of the New Testament.

Colossians is one of my favorite books of the Bible. It is all marked up in my Bible, and every single words holds so much truth and power. Sometimes, I am in awe my His Word.

I wanted to start with Colossians, and talk about a few verses that stuck out to me during this read-though. Firstly, 1:17. Paul says, “he is before all things, and in him all things hold together.” I don’t know about you, but I find so much comfort while reading this verse. I feel empowered, because I know that while I don’t have all the answers nor do I know His will, He DOES. He holds it all together. He holds me together. He holds you together. How special. How beautiful.

Colossians 1:24 also stuck out to me. It says (again, Paul speaking), “Now I rejoice in what I am suffering for you…” wow. Rejoicing through suffering is something that I am still just beginning to grasp the concept of. I have learned to think of it in terms of learning. For example, if I am going through something difficult...loneliness, comparison, frustration, overwhelm….etc, etc, it is so easy to get “in the pits” as they say. To become so self-absorbed that I negate what God is trying to teach me. Instead, I am learning to find the beauty in every single season. I am learning to bask in the promise that He has a plan for me. While I don’t know it all, I can rest in the fact that seasons are temporary, and there is a purpose in each one.

I encourage you to read through Colossians. Start today! Just take the week to focus on Chapter 1. I know sometimes the Bible can be overwhelming. It is a lot to take in. But it is also the most important book you will ever read and study. I am here anytime!
