Lately, God has been teaching me a lot about being JOYFUL. Full of Joy. I have talked about joy before, but it is such a big and important subject that I want to continue the conversation. Joy, to me, isn’t the same as happiness. Like I have said before, Happiness is breakable, but true joy is unshakeable.
This joy, the unshakeable excitement, comes from a relationship with our Father. James tells us in James 1 to count it all joy. He says, ”Consider it pure joy, my brothers and sisters, whenever you face trials of many kinds, because you know that the testing of your faith produces perseverance. Let perseverance finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything. I LOVE this version. Some versions of the bible replace the word “mature” with “perfect.” It is impossible to be perfect, but it isn’t impossible to be mature.
I am not going to lie, I’m not to this point yet. My joy isn’t so unshakeable that I don’t get discouraged when something doesn’t happen the way I planned. In fact, I get discouraged a lot! With school, this business, work, and just life, it can feel like there are a lot more opportunities to be discouraged than joyful.
But you know what? That is the wrong mentality. YES, life is hard. It isn’t easy. It isn’t supposed to be. We are going to fail. That is why we have Jesus to lean on, instead of our own breakable strength.
I was listening to a podcast earlier this week, and the person talked about the fact that as Christians, we should have a “glass half full” mentality. Now...I think the “half full” part of that statement is crucial.
Being joyful and positive does NOT mean that we only think about and experience good things. It means that we experience everything in this life, the good and the bad, focused on the truth that God is bigger and better. With this mentality, those battles and hardships won’t be easier, but they will be WORTH IT. They will be a learning experience, and a journey to growing your relationship with him.
This week, I encourage you to be full of joy. It will take time to switch the imperfect human mindset over to the one that truly reflects Him, but it is important to do so. I am on the same journey!
Until next time,
Amy Kate <3
