Higgins Lake Hat Throwback

Throwback Thursday:

If you’re new around here, you may not know how I celebrate Throwback Thursday! Every Thursday, I highlight a specific project I made a while ago. It might be as recent as a couple months, or as old as a few years. It is simply a project you’ve never seen from me, or at least haven’t seen in a long time. I started doing it because I wanted to have a good reason to share my older projects with you, since I just started my YouTube channel this past May. I hope you keep reading about this week’s project, and check out the YouTube video! I also have a playlist for all my Throwback Thursday Episodes on my channel, so be sure to check that out if you haven’t already ;)

This week’s project:

This week’s project is the Higgins Lake Hat by Jodi Brown! Oh man, I LOVE this hat. I had the pleasure of test knitting this hat quite awhile back. It is featured in Issue 7 of Nomadic Knits, and currently that is the only place it is available.

I absolutely loved knitting this hat. It was my first time doing slip stitch colorwork, and I fully enjoyed the challenge! It took longer than most hats I have knit, but that certainly isn’t a bad thing.

If you don’t already know, Jodi Brown is one of the incredible gals from The Grocery Girls! You can find their podcast on YouTube, but her and her sister also have incredible patterns available on Ravelry. They’re pretty famous in the knitting community, and so amazing!

The yarn:

For this beanie, I used KnitPicks Brava Sport in dove heather and peacock. I love the stark contrast for sure, but these are also two of my favorite colors from the Brava line. You have probably seen me use them often...for good reason ;)

Would I make this project again?

Totally! I haven’t made a second one yet, but I think this hat would be a great Christmas gift. It is knitted, but so fashionable that it would look good on any head. In fact...I think I am looking forward to making a second one one day!

Until next time,
